Peter Hayden
I am a storyteller… and I have been fortunate to share many stories on film and TV, in both drama and documentary.
As an actor, I love the challenge of embodying a range of characters of different ethnicity, accent, personality, social status, and physical ability.

As a documentary filmmaker and author, I greatly enjoyed bringing the world of nature into our lives through TV, and now, living among the trees on the Otago Peninsula, I want to share stories and experiences among the trees.
Forests are a refuge for many wild species, but also for us… places to inspire or to recover from the stresses and pressures of our busy modern lives..
FAQ's
Do I have to take off my clothes to go ‘forest bathing’?
Definitely not! In fact, it's best to wear warm clothing as during sessions we move slowly and stop frequently - you don’t want to get cold. The name ‘forest bathing’ is a translation of the Japanese practice of therapeutic forest walks called Shinrin Yoku. Forest Bathing has now become popular in many parts of the world.
How are Leafy Pete’s nature walks different from other walks in the woods?
Trees keep their secrets well hidden, and I want to give you a glimpse into their remarkable lives. They are skilled at making chemical weapons, just one of the many ingenious means they have of defending themselves. Trees have to stand and face dangers and threats… we (and other animals) can run or move away.
Where do I go for Leafy Pete’s forest experiences?
The sessions take place from my home base at Fat Weka Farm on Otago Peninsula, about a 30-minute drive or bus from Dunedin city. Further details are available when you book.
